DOMESTIC EXTENSION

ADDINGHAM, WEST YORKSHIRE

This single storey rear extension has been carefully proportioned, maintaining a low profile that complements the original home without overpowering it. The exterior walls are finished in materials that subtly contrast with the existing structureensuring that the extension feels like a natural expansion of the current home.

Inside, the extension is designed to be a versatile living area, with an open-plan layout that can serve multiple functions with a kitchen area. The overall design emphasizes simplicity, modernity, and a strong connection to the outdoors, creating a bright, welcoming space that enhances both the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the home.

The large bi-folding doors are the centrepiece of the design, allowing the entire back wall to open up, dissolving the boundary between the indoors and outdoors. When fully opened, these doors transform the extension into a pavilion-like space that invites the garden inside, perfect for entertaining or simply enjoying a quiet moment with nature. The doors are framed with slim, contemporary profiles that maximize the glass area, enhancing views and light penetration.

Above, strategically placed roof lights are integrated into the gently sloped roof, further enhancing the brightness of the space by bringing in additional daylight from above. The roof lights also add a sense of height and openness to the interior, making the space feel larger. These roof lights are designed to be flush with the roofline, maintaining the clean, minimalist profile of the extension while also providing excellent insulation and energy efficiency.
