DOMESTIC ALTERATIONS
ILKLEY, WEST YORKSHIRE
The original building, with its sturdy stone façade and traditional design, presented both opportunities and challenges. The homeowners sought to enhance the functionality of the space, aiming for a more open, fluid living environment that could adapt with them as a family. We envisioned a layout that would bring more light into the home and improve its overall usability while preserving its character.
One of the primary objectives was to open up the ground floor, which involved removing select internal walls to create a more cohesive living space. This transformation not only connected the kitchen and living areas but also allowed natural light to permeate throughout the space all year round. Modern amenities were introduced in a way that respects and enhances the home’s existing features.

Throughout the project, our team maintained a continuous dialogue with the homeowners, ensuring their vision and requirements were central to every decision made. This involved regular meetings and updates where we reviewed progress, discussed design options, and addressed any concerns or changes they wished to incorporate.
We began by gathering input from the homeowners about how they wanted to live in the space, their preferences and their specific needs . This initial consultation was crucial in understanding how best to adapt the home’s layout and features. As work progressed, we provided them with various design options and revisions, allowing them to see how different choices would impact the overall look and functionality of their home.
