This project was about transforming this family property in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, with a carefully designed single-storey side extension and a new terraced garden. Our clients wanted more light, space, and a stronger connection to the stunning landscape that surrounds their home.
We designed a single-storey side extension that opens the house up to its surroundings. Large sliding doors now frame views of the landscape and fill the new space with light. What was once a dark and underused corner of the home is now a welcoming living area that connects directly to a new terraced garden.

Inside, we made some small but important changes to improve how the spaces work together. The kitchen, dining, and living areas now feel connected — perfect for family life and entertaining. By opening up the plan and introducing more natural light, the home feels larger, brighter, and far more comfortable to live in.
The new extension blends naturally with the existing house. We used materials that complement the local stonework by bringing it into the interior to add warmth, while adding a subtle contemporary touch to the exterior. The terraced garden creates different levels for planting and seating, making the most of the sloping site. The result is a home that feels both fresh and familiar — a place that suits modern living while keeping the character our clients loved.
